Woven explores the thread of women speaking out for equality across generations.
In the background stands a suffragette, representing the early 20th-century struggle for women’s political voice. Campaigning for the right to vote, these women helped secure a fundamental democratic freedom, although access to that right was initially limited to certain groups and, even today, the ability to exercise it freely is not universal.
In the foreground, a contemporary woman in a business suit holds a phone displaying the hashtag #MeToo — a symbol of the modern movement confronting sexual harassment and abuse. What began in 2006 as an initiative to raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence grew into a global conversation in 2017 as millions of women publicly shared their experiences.
Separated by time yet united in purpose, the two figures form part of the same fabric — their voices woven together in the ongoing pursuit of equality.
