Sun Series

Inspired by the experience of looking up or through trees towards a brilliant sun, this series explores the way sunlight filters through branches, catches on bark and seems to radiate from within the landscape. Birch trees, with their luminous trunks and distinctive markings, feature strongly, while layered colour, metallic highlights and a stained-glass-like treatment create a sense of light, depth and movement. Inspired in part by the soaring, intricate beauty of the tree-like columns and stained glass of Gaudi's iconic masterpiece, La Sagrada Família in Barcelona, these paintings invite you to look upwards into the canopy and experience the sun shining out from the painting itself.
