The Artist
I live and paint in rural Waikato, where my home studio looks out towards Mount Pirongia.
A largely self-taught painter, I studied online with Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture in 2016 and have worked full-time as an artist since 2019.
I work mainly in acrylics, layering translucent colour and metallic pigments to capture light, atmosphere, and movement. My process is intuitive—I let the paint flow and guide me, then refine each piece with brushwork and palette knife. Resin sometimes finishes a work, adding depth and luminosity, but acrylics are at the heart of what I do.
My Horizon Series draws on elements of Magical Realism—placing familiar forms within land, sea, and sky to create dreamlike settings that invite reflection and discovery.
More recently, I’ve begun exploring abstract botanicals, using fluid brushstrokes to echo the rhythms and energy of the natural world in a looser, more expressive way.
As my style continues to evolve, I’m placing a growing emphasis on sustainability in the studio—making conscious choices about materials, processes, and the environmental footprint of my practice. This shift feels like a natural extension of my connection to the landscapes that inspire me.
Other series include Hidden Mountains, where quiet landscapes hold symbolic figures and native birds drawn from local myths and legends, and Symbolism, which responds to social, political, and environmental issues through shape, collage, and mixed media.
My paintings have been exhibited in three solo shows, regional art events, and group exhibitions across New Zealand. In 2024, I was honoured to be named one of the Top 10 Artists at the Auckland Art Show. My works are now held in collections throughout Aotearoa and internationally.
I love welcoming visitors to my Te Pahu studio—please get in touch if you’d like to come by.
